Read your way to success because leaders are readers
December 5, 2016What’s the secret to success?
You might be surprised to discover ultra successful people have a common attribute and that is learning by reading. The great news is anyone can gain vast amounts of knowledge on multiple subjects and quickly increase their expertise by reading.
How?
If you want to acquire new knowledge from reading, you will need three things:
1. To be able to read at ultra fast speeds
2. The ability to recall what you read
3. The ability to make good decisions and take the right action with your new knowledge
The world famous investor and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett credits many of his great money decisions to his voracious reading habit.
Buffet says he starts every morning by pouring over financial journals and newspapers and estimates he spends as much as 80 percent of his day reading. That is a lot of reading and it has paid off for Warren Buffet, as he is currently the third richest man in the world.
You may not have time to spend 80 percent of your day reading, but you do have a certain amount of time to invest, and if you were to allocate time to your schedule for reading, you will be more than happily surprised with the results. There is a way you can make your life easier and get more for your time, and that is to rapidly increase your speed of reading.
Do you know it’s relatively easy to increase your reading speed by 3 to 5 times and remember more, and that is PhotoReading, more on this later in the article.
Warren Buffet once said “I read and do more reading and thinking, and make less impulsive decisions than most people in business, I do it because I like this kind of life.” When asked about the key to his success, Buffet pointed to a stack of books and said, “read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.”
And that is the difference that makes the difference, we all can do an activity that leads to success, yet very few do, and that is why most people underachieve. If you think about it, you will not achieve success by watching soap operas or spending too much time reading fiction.
Author Tom Corley spent five years studying the daily activities of 233 rich people and 128 poor people, which he wrote about in “Rich Habits: The Daily Success Habits Of Wealthy Individuals.”
He found that 67 percent of rich people limited TV time to one hour or less per day, compared to only 23 percent of poor people. (Marguerite Ward, CNBC 2016). So next time you reach for the remote ask yourself ‘is this the best use of my time?’
There is more evidence to suggest that if you are a habitual reader you are more likely to be rich, self-made millionaire Steve Siebold interviewed 1,200 of the world’s wealthiest people to find out what traits they shared.
One trait nearly all of them had in common was they read everything from self-improvement books to autobiographies. (Marguerite Ward, CNBC 2016). By becoming an avid reader, not only will you be acquiring new knowledge through absorption of the written text, all the evidence points to higher levels of intelligence in habitual readers.
Psychologist Keith Stanovich writes in the U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, that reading increases intelligence by activating different parts of the brain than watching television which is passive as well as increasing vocabulary.
So the question is would you like to read more and become wealthier, more intelligent and successful? If so, you will need a strategy for reading and recall, and I suggest PhotoReading. PhotoReading is a five step process that combines conscious and unconscious processes for super fast reading and recall. With PhotoReading, you learn to mentally photograph the pages of a book engaging the unconscious part of your mind.
You then bring that information to conscious awareness through a series of speed reading techniques. The results are amazing, most people increase their speed of reading by 3 to 5 times at the course and confirm significantly higher levels of recall
Over the years thousands of people have studied PhotoReading with the NLP Academy. These people have used the system to get first class grades in exam, research projects, to become experts in their field and to ensure, like Warren Buffet, they have all the information available before making a decision.
So if you would like to increase your success levels by learning to PhotoRead we have a courses throughout the year – View our course calendar for information about upcoming PhotoReading courses.
