Representational system characteristics
The descriptions below are characteristics of each system. Consider the descriptions as generalisations of how people process and respond when in a particularly representational system mode. Most people will go into different modes throughout the day. Some people will be highly dominant in one system and hardly use another system. Others are more balanced and will respond in different systems depending on context.
Bateson on Logical Levels
In his work Steps to Ecology of Mind, Gregory Bateson references Bertrand Russell and his theory of Logical Types for how human beings learn and organise experiences. Russell’s and Bateson’s work inspired logical levels and chunking in NLP. Bateson used the terms logical type and logical level interchangeably and in Whispering in the Wind, Bostic and Grinder offer clear definitions.
Logical level: The levels in a hierarchy generated by logical inclusion, in the hierarchy. In the hierarchy above kayaks, yachts, ocean liners are said to be on the same level based on the premise they are the set members that fall within the set of boats (level above) that adhere to the overall set membership rule of floating.
Neuro Linguistic Programming began its life early in the 1970s when an Associate Professor from the University of California, Santa Cruz, John Grinder, teamed up with an undergraduate, Richard Bandler. Both men had a fascination with human excellence which charted a path for them to model behavioural patterns of selected geniuses.
Modelling is the core activity in NLP, and is the process of extricating and replicating the language structure and behavioural patterns of an individual who is excellent at a given activity.

After another great week at the Academy, the end of the official working week is here.
Trawling though facebook earlier on, I saw a continual message on my news feed, ‘TGIF’, (thank god its Friday) Meaning the weekend is near, no work, party time ect…
How about a nice reframe FFF, follow though Friday. The weeks not over yet, make today count, be part of the minority not the majority who succeed every day.
The feedback today is being sent out to the recent attendees of the NLP practitioner and New Code certification. Many companies out there will hand out every practitioner candidate that attends their course a certificate. Short term this is really easy for them, send out the certificates and the next batch of people will come to the next course, easy peasy, no admin, everyone passes, everyone’s happy.

The quality of training was outstanding, the depth of human understanding was awe inspiring, and to meet and learn from Carmen Bostic St Clair and the co-creator of NLP John Grinder was utterly mesmerising.
