Hi Everyone, Oenca here…

Firstly, sorry I’ve been out of the loop for so long. I’ve been reading most of the NLP activity, but being in the Midlands, its unlikely that I’ll be able to attend many of the get togethers that happen down South.

Anyway.. the primary reason for ‘writing up’... I had my first ‘Spider Encounter’ last weekend, or was is 2 weekends ago? Normally I would remember vividly, coz I’d probably still be reliving the event. But I guess I must be healed. I’m not going to say Michael, that me and spiders are the best of friends, but something has definitely shifted.

When my little friend appeared in the bathroom, he actually came down from the ceiling to within 15 inches of my face and I didn’t scream, get breathless or anxious. In fact I went in closer and actually counted his feet - I also looked closely, but there were no shoes!! I also noticed a small smirk on my face. So maybe I’m keeping the real laughter for a really big friend!!

Lastly, on the spider subject. I saw a number of daddylonglegs - now I could normally look at these, or hoover them up, from a distance. But guess what… as I cleaning up at my office, I actually touched one… and I never died!!! There is still hope for me. On a serious note though, at the moment I can sit in my lounge, on my own for hours, without imagining spiders walking along the floor towards me. So I definitely feel freer.

While I’m here…
Michael, I got so excited about the possibility of the NLP Academy Roadshow… expecting there to be a Birmingham date… y’know the second city… I was disappointed… :( Nevermind, next time.

What else have I be doing…

Well I’m looking for/experimenting with ways to get my son to engage with me, so that I develop a New Code type activity to develop his high performing state. His inability to engage consistently with me at the moment is making progress slow.

Finally, I’ve been working with my UNC, and we’ve been having some interesting conversations. Just last Wednesday, my husband and I went for a skiing session at Snowdome, Tamworth. We haven’t been skiing since getting married and the children coming along, so I was a bit apprehensive in case I fell over and hurt myself in the snow. I asked my UNC if it would work with me to keep me safe whilst I was skiing. It accepted the challenge… We skied for 3 hours had a great time, no injuries (just stretched lactic muscles 2 days later!!). Thank you UNC.

I attempted to use the UNC in working with a new client, with his permission to experience something different, but found difficulties getting him to be able to communicate with his UNC. We got a clear signal for ‘Yes’, after a few iterations, but then he kept zoning out and falling asleep when we were eliciting his ‘No’ signals. Any suggestions? We’ve gone back to more traditional coaching methods for now, but would like to try again.

I’ve probably put this in the wrong strand, haven’t I?

Anyway looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Much love
Oenca x

Hi everybody!
I am new to the forum and would like to introduce myself.
My name is Ana María Valenzuela. Even though I am from Chile, I live in Spain (in the very south) and will be attending the Trainers Training group in August.
I am very excited about this new adventure and have tons of hope and projects attached to completing this program. I am sure it will be an unforgettable experience!
A bit about myself… I come from a very big family that lives abroad and have 3 children. Hold a License in Psychology and have done many studies around the globe. In the USA I studied an Educational Specialist in School Psychology, in London I did all my NLP training (Practitioner, Master Practitioner and NLP Coaching Certification) and in Spain I am still in the middle of a Masters in Intervention Techniques and Psychological Treatment.
My goal is to set my own academy and promote health and well being all around. For this matter I have still to decide which one will be my scope: companies, adults, children… There is an inmense amount of posibilities and all of them are inviting to me. I guess I will know better after I finish the course.

I am very happy to be part of this group. 19 nationalities!!! WOW! It promises to be such a dynamic and versatile group! Where I live in Spain is kind of the same. The community is filled with people from everywhere - I guess the good weather bring us all to this spot!- and so my children and I enrich our lives from learning a bit of everybody. It is very special!
I am a bit nervous about leaving the children for 3 weeks in the middle in the summer, but I am sure this experience will pay off.
I cannot wait to meet you all and I am sure we will have a fantastic course. How lucky are we to have such amazing trainers??!!!
See you soon!
ani. (even though my name is Ana María, you can call me Ani…)

Hi folks… thought I’d follow the tradition here, and introduce myself, my “NLP Goals”, and background.

I’m sort of a “NLP old-timer” and “fresh NLP” person at the same time. My original certification was in “NLP New Code”, taught by Derek Balmer, in 1997 (NLP Canada, located in Toronto, Ontario- relatively close to where I work and live). I followed through with it until 2003, then life took some very strange turns for awhile and now in 2010 I’m back at it.

Professionally - I work in the computer field (self employed, consultant, fairly large range of skills). I took NLP originally for self-improvement, access to accelerated learning, few other things. Found it had a lot more to offer, and started exploring and growing the skills.

I have done some consulting using entirely NLP (ie, completely outside the computer field) assisting therapists in locating problem points in clients (mostly meta-model work, I’m quite talented at spotting and altering patterns and loops, in both computers and people). I’ve used the NLP skills for a lot of self-work, helping out friends and family, and I find hypnosis provides a nice complementary skill as well- extra tools for use as the occasion requires .

In 2010, I went back and got my Eriksonian Hypnosis certification (taught by Dr. Mike Mandel), went for a refresher of my NLP training, signed up for the “Trainer’s Training” (the July 2011 class, if I can manage it, 2012 worst case scenario), and started to review the NLPedia.

The seven year gap in my life where I was away from NLP (at least on the concious layer) gives a strange feeling of “jumping in time”, seeing NLP history suddenly unfold all at once.

I’ve been comparing my original training notes (1997) to my new training notes (2010) and to the NLPedia. It’s like seeing “history change” but all at once. When you live in a city, the changes happen so gradually over the years it seems natural, if you go back to your home town you grew up in after being away for 20 years… your map of “home town”, vivid in the mind, doesn’t match anymore with the territory. Readjustment is fast - but evolution folks have taken for granted and is out of concious mind for them stands out to you, perhaps now you are seeing what is fundamental and necessary to the town, and what areas change and evolution is allowed ?

Some of the techniques and exercises from my original training - unchanged. Some are modified, improved. Others have been dropped, and new techniques/exercises take their place. There’s some new terminology added to describe things we noticed before but didn’t have words for, and some have been dropped as redundant (in the current NLP New Code - I’ve only seen “concious / subconcious” type references… the “1st attention / 2nd attention” references have disappeared… ).

So I’m “back home”.... and I’ve got both maps, the old one and the new. The “NLP home town” has grown a bit, the streets are allowing for a bit more traffic, the population has grown, some former dead-end roads have been replaced with a couple of major highways. It still has a nice friendly feel, and as before, it’s about the growth and well-being of those that choose to live here, and even the visitors that are just passing through.

The “Trainer’s Training” fits nicely with my background, my goals, and my other interests…. . I have taught night school (for computers), many years ago, and found it very rewarding, passing knowledge and skills to others. I’ve been active in Toastmasters on-and-off over the years, including helping to found a Toastmasters club (Toastmasters is about public speaking, for those that haven’t heard of it… and it’s a very rewarding experience). I’m started Improv to “re-connect with my inner child” (and have a great deal of fun in the process).

I would like to slowly, over time (years), transition my career from “Systems Consulting / Implementation” to something that involves training, with heavy focus on people. Perhaps start slowly, sub-contracting myself out to academys/institutes that need an extra capable trainer short term, perhaps there’s other better ways to transition, or some combination I haven’t considered yet…. one thing at a time: This next year is heavy review time, develop great secondary skills that synergize with NLP skills, and a combination of “have fun with it” and “do something useful for others/self” with it.

I’m hoping to learn from others on this forum as well, and if opportunity presents, participate in refining potentially new ideas and/or techniques, or perhaps my own experiences may have given me something I can contribute back to the community.

I’ve got a lot of questions- but I’ll check posts first before posting new ones, odds are others may have already asked them, and answers may already be available.

Hope to see you folks in the discussion areas !

-Paul Harrison

Writing articles can actually take a good amount of time when you combine all the necessary preparations along with the writing process itself. In fact it is not unusual to begin monitoring the time you invest in this process which can than lead to freelance writers block.

Hi everyone!

I am a university student in south England. I study at the arts institute at Bournemouth but I am currently considering changing my course of study to helping others and myself. I have been studying NLP, self help, and personal development for years and it is clear at this point that I am far more passionate about that than my art studies I am currently doing.

I want to focus my occupation and career on to NLP or coaching. Is there anywhere I can earn qualifications or get into the momentum of this direction?

Thanks,
