I have just completed teaching a Practitioner course and Trainers Training with John Grinder, Carmen Bostic St Clair and John Thompson. We had people from seventeen countries from every continent visit Brighton, where we held our courses. It was a fascinating and exhilarating experience to be part of two unique courses occurring simultaneously but in separate rooms. I was particularly interested in the different mindsets of the people who attended each course and how in certain cases ‘filters’ determined the learner’s experience.

Ever since I have been an observer of people, which started when I was very young I have been interested in the diverse attitudes to money and wealth creation. In this article I will look at wealth creation from an NLP perspective. For the purpose of this article, when I refer to ‘wealth’ in monetary terms or to wealthy people, I am talking of people who have £1,000,000 (one million pounds) in net assets. I have selected these arbitrary amounts and denoted them as meanings to the abstract noun ‘wealth’ based on the profile of subscribers to my newsletter. It’s interesting how different people will have different meanings for abstract nouns such as wealth. If you as a reader of this article are interested in building more personal wealth, it may be a useful exercise to write down specifically what wealth means to you in both monetary and personal terms.

In this article, I will present a much-used metaphor in NLP and that is the notion of a conscious and unconscious mind. I use the word metaphor because neither the conscious or unconscious mind exists in the literal sense. The terms are just useful to package conscious and unconscious processing.
