This course, led by two master storytellers is unlike anything else in NLP. John Grinder and Carmen Bostic St Clair are two creative geniuses who will share the richness of their own personal stories, and their own natural brilliance to guide you through these inspirational and fulfilling three days.
Master Storytellers weaving mind altering tales
From the Sufis to the Native Americans story telling has been a cultural experience shared by many through the ages. Legends, mythology, parables, poetry, Zen and Haiku demonstrate the powerful effect of story. In our hardcore western tradition the telling of and listening to stories has been replaced with passive activities such as TV, Computer games, etc. Such mind-numbing activities do little to generate connections for change in the brain.
Modern masters
The most powerful communicators of our time including Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, John F Kennedy, Mohamed Ali and Martin Luther King utilised metaphor and anecdote as a way of connecting with people. Closer to home, some of the people who influenced NLP, such as Milton Erickson, Gregory Bateson and Carlos Castaneda used a variety of metaphorical approaches in their work. Metaphors and Butterflies is about continuing the tradition of the masters and creating a new lineage of storytellers.
Multi-level communication
Metaphor works at different levels. The conscious mind processes the content of story while the unconscious is receiving the embedded messages within the story. The embedded message creates generative change while the conscious mind focuses on the surface level of the story. This course is about how to become a Master storyteller and create parallel realities in story (as happens in dreams) so people at the unconscious level can resolve their issues.
Metaphors from your life
We are continuously telling ourselves different versions of our life story. The inner voice whispers and sometimes shouts the script We can recite chapter and verse on how hard we have struggled to overcome our perceived problem. The self-constructed versions of your life script are just personal metaphors, and not necessarily true. These stories unconsciously guide your perceptions and experiences. At the course, you will investigate your own stories, and when uncovered you will explore different processes for modifying or even replacing the stories with new stories that serve you in life more effectively.

• The structure of different cultural metaphors
• The stories you heard as a child, and their impact on you
• Exploration of the story you are living
• Utilising the clients story at a deep level
Childhood pieces
You are invited to bring along a short story, a poem or fairytale from childhood that you found particularly touching – either positively or negatively. Carmen and John will use this material as part of the experience at the seminar.
